NEW MUSIC: ‘LAIDBACK COUNTRY’ TONY COOK...

‘Laidback Country’ the new single from Tony Cook is a dedication to his beloved hometown of Charters Towers, Queensland and its “laidback culture”. Produced by Simon Johnson of Hillbilly Hut, the track features legendary Australian guitarist Phil Emmanuel on a lead guitar solo. The single has been given the video treatment by The Filmery and features Federal/State MPs Bob Katter and Shane Knuth – check it out HERE ‘Laidback Country’ is the first single and title track from the singer-songwriter’s debut album, to be released in mid-2017. The debut EP “Laidback Tones” was released a little over 7 years ago and in that break, Tony took the time to get married, start a family and while he generally got busy with life, he never stopped writing songs. Tony fondly recalls some of the characters that would frequent his parents’ hotel in Maxwelton Queensland and while one day he’d love to write a book about them, for now he’s happy to put his experiences and passion for the bush into his songs. The new album is pure country and has been described as a blend of an Australian George Strait meets John Williamson with a hint of Paul Kelly. The jukebox in the remote outback family pub, helped Tony find his way to country music via all the latest country hits including Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler and the latest from Slim Dusty and Johnny Cash. Today Tony’s musical favourites include Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks and Australian success-stories John Williamson, Graeme Connors, Troy Cassar-Daley, Adam Brand and James Blundell. When Tony isn’t performing across North Queensland, he is a part-time farrier and works on the small family farm. Over the years, Tony has been fortunate enough to share the stage with many Australian music heavy-weights including...

“SIX STRING HEART” – JACKIE DEE – OUT NOW!...

Jackie Dee is back with “Six String Heart” – her third and most personable album to date. Juggling her time as a family therapist and a singer-songwriter, this new release sees Jackie fearless in tackling the tougher topics including domestic violence and mental illness. Produced by the award-winning Matt Fell, the album will be released February 17th to follow an official single launch and album preview show at the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival. When asked to describe her new album, Jackie tell us, “This collection of songs symbolise a monumentally challenging time for me and my family. Losing my brother John, 51, in March last year was devastating just four months after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. He battled mental illness for 30 years which added to this tragedy and my mother was his primary carer for all of his life. My step-father was diagnosed with cancer at the same time but thankfully is now in remission. The track ‘Zeppelin’s Playing’ is about the last moments I spent together with my brother listening to his favourite Led Zeppelin album”. The Helensburgh NSW based artist was also deeply affected by the story of a mother who was bludgeoned to death last year in front of her 14 year old son in a community very close to where she lives. “Her Free Will” was a protest song inspired by her story and Jackie plans to offer this song as a gift to any organisation who aims to raise awareness of preventing violence against women. “Six String Heart” features many other reflective songs including ‘Little Ones’, which Jackie wrote soon after her daughter (now 21) moved out of home and of course the first single ‘Contemplating Life’ which has just been released to radio....

EL COSGROVE “GUITARS & CIGARS” – OUT NOW!...

“Guitars & Cigars” is the debut EP from 2016 CMAA Academy Of Country Music graduate El Cosgrove. The self-confessed red-headed, boot-wearing, alt-country singer-songwriter has drawn upon her upbringing in rural Queensland for her debut release. After graduating high school El set off to Canada where she was immersed in the rodeo and ranch life of Alberta and had the opportunity to perform at the ‘Ladies of Canadian Pro Rodeo Luncheon and Fashion Show’ as a part of the ‘Canadian Finals Rodeo’ in Edmonton. Since returning to Australia she has played regular gigs and festivals from packed out halls and the opening ceremony at the Tamworth Country Music Festival to the main stage at The Gympie Music Muster and a bunch of shows in-between. Featuring five original songs the EP was produced at Sydney’s LoveHz Studios by Matt Fell. After meeting the ARIA Award & Golden Guitar winning producer, when he was a guest speaker at the country music academy, El knew she’d found the perfect person to bring her music to life. Once they had arranged to work together El flew down to Sydney and lived in Love Hz studios for one whirlwind week in which the EP was produced. With the producer also playing various instruments, Glen Hannah on guitars, Josh Schuberth on percussion, you’ll find an alt-country sound mixed with folk, Americana & western sounds paired with punchy lyrics. Australia’s country music capital will always be special to El – it’s here she was privileged to have co-written songs with both Kasey Chambers and Ashleigh Dallas, share the stage with the likes of Catherine Britt, Lyn Bowtell, Kevin Bennett, Dobe Newton and Roger Corbett (The Bushwackers), Karl Brodie and fellow academy students, as well as having the opportunity to work with Amber...

“AIRBORNE” NEW ALBUM FROM KALESTI BUTLER OUT NOW!...

While most will know the Kalesti Butler for her bush ballads and traditional sound, over recent years Kalesti has wanted to explore the wider musical genre. When asked about her upcoming release, Kalesti says, “I love a challenge and achieving my dreams, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ll be flying.” Working with Robert Mackay from Pacific International Music on her upcoming album, has only reinforced Kalesti’s decision to add to her musical range. Kalesti has fellow artist Michael Bryers to thank for suggesting recording at the award-winning studio during a discussion at the 2015 Mildura Country Music Festival. After only the first meeting between artist and producer, Kalesti was thrilled to learn they had similar views about the industry, song choice, the direction and the kind of album she wanted to create. They quickly got to work on what would become her 2nd album “Airborne”, which was released at the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival. “Airborne” introduces eleven tracks – Kalesti has written the majority with help from her mum Val, Roger Corbett, Cathy Dobson, Anita Ree, Felicity Urquhart and the remainder balanced out by Bob Wilson, Rain Perry, Lola Brinton, Kevin Bennett and Luke O’Shea. Kalesti attended the 2015 DAG Sheep Station Singers Songwriters Retreat where she wrote ‘Ride Cowboy’ with Felicity Urquhart. This track was inspired by her dad who had cancer and was quite ill at the time. Sadly he passed away while Kalesti was on her way to the 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival. Speaking on the phone when Kalesti was at a half-way pit stop, she had no idea “have fun in Tamworth” would be some of his final words. ‘You’re Not The One’ is another album track written at the Songwriters Retreat. Roger Corbett...

NEW MUSIC: ‘Contemplating Life’ Jackie Dee...

‘Contemplating Life’ is the new single from Helensburgh NSW based artist Jackie Dee. The philosophical track comes from the artist’s own pen and she tells us, “We are all touched, moved, angered by the things we hear about in the news each day and it’s easy to despair. I wanted this song to have universal meaning, reaching all of us who sit and ponder the current state of our planet and society but at the same time the song encourages optimism and at its core it’s about the importance of our relationships”. The single has been bought to life for the small screen by Josh Favaloro of The Filmery – check it out HERE ‘Contemplating Life’ is the first single to be released from Jackie’s third album, “Six String Heart” – her most personable album to date. Juggling her time as a family therapist and a singer-songwriter, this new release sees Jackie fearless in tackling the tougher topics including domestic violence and mental illness. Produced by the award-winning Matt Fell, the album will be released 17 February to follow an official single launch and album preview show at the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival. Described as sometimes a little ‘Country Belle’ and sometimes a little ‘rock chick’, the mum of two describes her style as coastal country (living where the bush meets the sea) sung with a voice that has been likened to Faith Hill and Mollie McClymont. It was late 2007, whilst penning songs for her alt/country duo Dee-tour when Jackie decided to try her luck at a regional song competition. Judge Colin Buchanan awarded her first prize for her song ‘A Few Wrong Turns’, a song about making those big important mistakes in life that teach us the most. Jackie released her...

NEW MUSIC: EL COSGROVE ‘THE UNFAMILIAR’...

El Cosgrove is a self-confessed red-headed, boot-wearing, alt-country singer-songwriter. The 2016 CMAA Academy Of Country Music graduate has drawn upon her upbringing in rural Queensland and other life experiences for her debut single, ‘The Unfamiliar’. This track is all about El’s love of travelling and experiencing rural life on the road. Always feeling a sense of calm and belonging whilst driving and experiencing places off the beaten track, El believes this is most likely influenced by her upbringing on a farm near Dalby, in the Queensland Darling Downs. El remembers, “Some of my earliest memories are driving between our farms with my family doing the many necessary jobs including carting machinery or moving and feeding cattle.” After meeting producer Matt Fell, when he was a guest speaker during her time at the academy earlier this year, El knew she’d found the perfect person to bring her music to life. Once they had arranged to work together El flew down to Sydney and lived in Love Hz studios for one whirlwind week in which the EP was produced. Matt playing various instruments, Glen Hannah on guitars and Josh Schuberth on percussion. Australia’s country music capital will always be special to El – it’s here she was privileged to have co-written songs with both Kasey Chambers and Ashleigh Dallas, share the stage with the likes of Catherine Britt, Lyn Bowtell, Kevin Bennett, Dobe Newton and Roger Corbett (The Bushwackers), Karl Brodie and fellow academy students, as well as having the opportunity to work with Amber Lawrence, Aleyce Simmonds and more.
